Juicing in Brazil and Slim 4 Life

This week I have been spreading the juicy message in non-other than the Juicing Capital of the world – Brazil. I flew half way around the world and back again in just three days to spread the juicy word to many representatives from all over Latin America! It was a very busy trip and I met with many journalists and people who are interested to start the Juice Master programme in their beautiful country. I love seeing the books translated into other languages, although certain languages prove a challenge, such as Turkish where there is no word for ‘Juice’ and the literal translation is ‘Water of Vegetable’ hmm that sounds appetising - Not!

I did a couple of talks and met with the top executives from a few companies with regard to getting juicing even bigger in Brazil. The produce out there is just extraordinary and they have the biggest avocados I have ever seen. I spent a few hours a day in a gorgeous park and watched people enjoying the winter sun, at 25 degrees! Our USA and Brazil page should be up and running soon on the website so if you can read Portuguese, you will be able to read the many newspaper articles that have recently come out in Brazil.

I am now beavering away down in sunny Cornwall re-writing my first ever book ‘Slim-4-Life, freedom from the food trap’ and of course surfing! The weather has been amazing and the beach here is one of the best in Europe. All the time I lived in London I had no idea of the beauty of Cornwall – if you have never been, you are missing out.

I wrote Slim 4 Life eight years ago, well before I had a publishing deal, I just felt it was my duty to get down on paper all that I had discovered and share my message with people. For the first time in my life I had genuinely gained ‘freedom from the food trap’ and I just wanted the world to know how to stop letting food control them. During those months of writing the original 'Slim 4 Life' I was continually told I would never get the book published and I was bombarded by people with statistics of how few books ever made it to the shelf. I wasn’t perturbed by the negativity as I had an inner knowing that what I had to say could change the way people look at food forever.

The day I posted my original manuscript back in 2001 to Harper Collins, I said to my mother “I have either just posted a load of paper with ink on or something that could change hundreds of thousands of lives (including my own)”

In less than 24 hours I received a phone call from Wonda Whitley of Harper Collins, saying she had received the manuscript and that it was “The best thing she had read on the subject in 25 years!” she said the manuscript was “Like a cold glass of water on a hot summers day” This was a remarkable event, as I now know that less than 1% of all manuscripts written ever get read by a publisher and to be contacted in less than 24 hours was unprecedented. I vividly remember that life changing moment as I rollerbladed through Dulwich Park saying "Great day" to random strangers and beaming from ear to ear - If I could bottle that feeling and sell it I would be a millionaire many times over. As they say in Hollywood, ‘the rest is history’ and I got the publishing deal that set me off on the journey to become ‘The Juice Master’.

‘Slim-4-Life’ became very successful and changed thousands of people lives, however eight years on it is time for a re-vamp as so much has happened in the industry since then and there is so much more I want to share with people. It is amazing to look back and wonder how so many things can change in such a short space of time with the same subject. The publishers are looking for a January 2009 launch which means they need the new manuscript by 31st July! On that note, I’ve got to get back to it…

Have a great week folks and keep juiced!

Juicing with the stars!

Dear Juicy Friends,
Welcome to my brand new blog, online diary thingy. I have decided to keep a record of all my juicy adventures to keep you all informed with what’s happening in my world. This is a particularly good time for me to start, as last week I was out and about meeting lots of juicy people!

Firstly I headed down South to visit Katie Price and Peter Andre in their gorgeous new home. They were up to their eyes in boxes and they were still in the process of getting things straight. Little Junior, Harvey and Princess seemed to love the new place, especially the indoor pool. Harvey is a great swimmer and seemed one happy camper in the water and Junior and Princess are as cute as it gets.

Katie and Peter were as entertaining as ever and they were keen to get back into a bit of healthy juicing. I set up a juice bar for them, made some juices and gave a bit of juicy advice. I left them with a copy of my new book and I hope they get a chance to read it. Like many people whose lives are incredibly busy, nutrition tends to get forgotten about at the cost of other more important matters. In reality, nutrition should be the most important aspect of each day, especially when you think it affects every aspect of your life. So it was good to get Katie and Peter juicing again. It was great to see them again and I wish them lots of happiness in their new home…and with their new juicer!

Tuesday 1st July I had one of those brilliantly busy and productive days, the kind of day that when you hit your head on the pillow at night you feel exhausted but really pleased that you have had a fulfilling day. I was due on ‘The Wright Stuff’ on Tuesday morning and that is always an early start as we had to get to the studio for 7.00am to prepare the juices. The show goes out live at 9am, but a certain amount of prep is required. Mathew is always good value and, as he is a big juicing fan, he is quite happy to talk juice. Unfortunately, things over ran with other items and I only got nine minutes. After a few calls this wasn’t even enough time to turn the juicer on! Still, I believe it was a valuable feature and we had a great response afterwards. The subject was ‘juicy mums’ and all recipes are on my website.

It was a rare gorgeous sunny day in London so I picked up my God-daughter and headed over to Brockwell Lido (my old stomping ground and a regular for James Nesbit too). I wanted to get myself some needed vitamin D giving sunshine and dive into what I believe to be the coldest pool on earth. That evening was my publishers (Harper Collins) annual authors party. This isn’t my usual bag, but as I was in London I decided to pop along.

The party was held at the Victoria and Albert museum. As we arrived there were paparazzi outside. With Russel Brand and Jason Donavan due, they took one look up at me, must have thought, ‘who the hell is he’ and carried on doing whatever it is they do. As soon as we went in I saw Gok, as in ‘how to look good naked’, which I thought was rather odd as I don’t think I have ever seen anyone, male or female, with so much make-up on!

I then saw Willam Hague and many other well known people. Then I saw Alan Carr as of Friday Night Project fame (although its Sunday night now). He was talking to David Badeil, who, in my opinion, is one of the funniest and most intelligent people around. I went up to Alan to explain I knew the stop smoking guru Allen Carr etc but what came as a bit of a surprise was when he said, “oh we were just talking and we wondered if you were the juice guy”. At that moment I thought, ‘Alan Carr knows who I am? How very, very odd”.

I then spoke to David about him and Frank, football and of course his ‘unplanned’ TV series. It was a great evening and I think I just may get Alan and David into the juicy world. Oh one last thing and I didn’t have the heart to tell Alan (nor did anyone for that matter), but he had quite a large amount of dry hair gel at the back of his hair, it was akin to a famous scene from ‘There’s something about Mary’…sorry Alan!

So that’s the events in my week and I look forward to keeping you posted with more juicy news in my next weekly Blog.

Keep juicy!
